Abstract
In this chapter, the authors examine the connection between investments in innovation and the sustainable performance of companies operating within the Oil, Gas, and Biofuels sector, specifically those listed on the B3 stock exchange, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample for this analysis consisted of nine companies. The data analysis occurred in 2020, with 2019 data used for comparative purposes. This choice was motivated by the World Health Organization's declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, which ushered in significant economic, social, and environmental consequences for organizations. The study revealed no substantial disparity in innovation investments between 2020 and 2019. However, it did unveil a moderately positive relationship between overall innovation efforts and sustainable performance. This outcome likely stemmed from the consistent commitment of organizations in the examined sector to investing in innovation, enhance their engagement with stakeholders and adhere to corporate social responsibility principles.
