Abstract

Land ecosystems provide a range of products, such as food, energy, and construction materials, in addition to essential services like carbon sequestration, soil quality maintenance, habitat supply for biodiversity, water quality maintenance, water flow management, and erosion control. To maintain the diversity of life on land, targeted efforts that preserve, restore, and promote the preservation and sustainable use of terrestrial and other ecosystems are required. Preventing the loss of biodiversity, successfully halting desertification, stopping and reversing habitat and land degradation, and managing forests sustainably are the main objectives of SDG Goal 15. These ecosystems need to be protected in order to properly reduce and adapt to climate change. This chapter examines the potential and problems related to Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land) by examining the connections between the environment, legal frameworks, and biodiversity conservation.
