Emerging Research for 5G
Abstract
This chapter examines cutting-edge research that is shaping the evolution of 5G networks, with a focus on advanced technologies that address their complex demands. Key innovations include the deployment of small cells and peer-to-peer communications (D2D, M2M) in heterogeneous networks. Enabling technologies such as full-duplex communication, massive MIMO, and millimeter-wave systems are highlighted for their role in enhancing network performance. Energy efficiency emerges as a core priority, with energy-aware communication and energy-harvesting strategies being crucial to the user experience. Additionally, cloud-based radio access networks (C-RAN) and spectrum virtualization are presented as essential for managing resources and ensuring network scalability.
