Abstract

Modern physical education should respond to the significant challenges set by international organizations such as the UN. Among these priority objectives, educating gender equity and emotional well-being stand out. Traditional sporting games (TSG) are exceptional educational resources for creating a wide variety of motor experiences that will lead to a wide variety of equitable motor conducts and emotional well-being. This study aimed to compare the impact of an educational intervention of TSG in physical education with another intervention based on the practice of a sport on emotional states and gender stereotypes in primary school students in two rural schools. The study confirms that practicing TSG resulted in more intense positive emotions and lower negative emotions than during sports. The TSG program also led to changes in gender stereotypes, which was not observed in the control group.
