Distributed Cognition
Abstract
Theories of the extended mind or extended cognition have been among the most widely reflected and studied concepts in philosophy since the late 1990s. In the last few years, they have gained in importance and interest with the development of artificial intelligence. On the one hand, the conception reflects some common approaches but brings in two less common aspects. The authors link the concept of augmented cognition to issues related to education and its implications. They seek to analyze what such a concept means for understanding learning, errors, and collaboration. At the same time, they introduce the aspect of corporeality and its relevance to cognition in the process of reflecting on this phenomenon. Understanding learning as a process of building the concept of an extended mind, which comprises both human and non-human actors connected through the internet, represents a critical phenomenon that this chapter seeks to reflect on.
