Abstract

Økokrim – the National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime in Norway – issued the following press release under the heading “Reduced punishment for serious corruption in the care sector” on June 27, 2023: The Borgarting court of appeal has, in a recent verdict, reduced the prison sentence for a person in the Stendi case. The convict was sentenced for gross corruption last year. The person was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison in the Oslo district court last year. The sentence has now been reduced by 7 months. The corruption occurred at Stendi, formerly Aleris Ungplan & Boi Inc., which is a company that, among other things, provides services on behalf of the public sector to vulnerable groups. The convict headed several supplier companies that supplied services to the care provider Stendi Inc. and was found guilty in the district court of having given bribes to a total value of approximately NOK 2.5 million [USD 250,000] to three regional executives at Stendi. Økokrim regards the matter as very serious.
