Community Participation in Solid Waste Management in Rural Maharashtra
Abstract
Community participation in solid waste management (SWM) in rural Maharashtra is essential for sustainable development and public health. Rural areas often face challenges such as inadequate waste collection services, improper disposal practices, and a lack of awareness about sustainable waste management methods. This study explores how local communities can be mobilized to engage in SWM, highlighting the importance of active involvement in planning, implementing, and monitoring waste management practices. The research identifies barriers and opportunities, emphasizing that community engagement can lead to better resource allocation, increased awareness, and more sustainable practices. By examining current practices and proposing policy recommendations, the study aims to enhance community participation in SWM, ultimately improving environmental and public health outcomes in rural Maharashtra.
