Abstract
Biomaterials have been developed in the medical field as an innovation evolved for sustainable therapeutic and surgical approaches. These materials comprise natural and synthetic polymers which degrades naturally to nontoxic by-products within biological systems. They can offer temporary structural support and encourage tissue regeneration, which makes them useful in regenerative medicine, drug delivery systems, and temporary medical implants. This chapter includes biodegradable engineering and dental care materials, representing new and sustainable options for temporary and permanent implants. Nanocomposites doped with nanoparticles such as hydroxyapatite and bioactive glasses can improve mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and bioactivity, proving more prominent in dental implants, as integration with the tissue is crucial here. Continued study is positioning such materials to dramatically change how sustainable and effective dental care is achieved, marrying the clinician's needs with the demands of environmental stewardship.
