Abstract

The theory of technology dominance was applied in demonstrating how AI can radicalize human rights protection and increase the detection accuracy of human rights violations in IDP camps. This theory, which was proposed by scholars Steve Arnold and Vicky Sutton, distinguishes between two important concepts: dominance and reliance. While dominance refers to a situation in which the technology assumes main control over decision-making, potentially ignoring user input, dependence refers to the degree to which users incorporate recommendations from decision aids into their judgments. It was argued that AI can open a world of possibilities to the detection, investigation, and assessment of human rights violations in IDP camps, and this could be extended to environments where human rights monitoring is difficult. It was concluded that AI can be tremendously helpful as a technological solution to human rights violations in difficult environments.
