Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming a vital part of crisis management and disaster response, particularly in the context of urban infrastructure. Cities are increasingly vulnerable to both natural and man-made disasters as they grow larger and more interconnected. AI systems have the ability to anticipate, plan for, and handle emergencies more effectively, protecting metropolitan people in the process. The application of AI to the phases of preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation of disasters is examined in this chapter, with a particular emphasis on how AI may strengthen the resilience of urban infrastructure. We highlight case studies, examine challenges in AI deployment, and propose future directions for AI-driven crisis management systems.
