Abstract

The intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Business Process Automation (BPA) is rapidly changing the digital transformation landscape. This intersection is evident in both public administration and business for sustainability and the challenges that governments and businesses are facing to improve efficiency, transparency and sustainability. AI powered BPA is a key enabling technology that can achieve intelligent, data-first, and adaptive operations. This chapter reviews key methods, technologies and tools that underpin AI business process automation in the public sector and environmentally agnostic businesses. Most importantly, this chapter provides a straightforward introduction to the field allowing researchers, policymakers and practitioners to understand and to grasp the transformative nature of the digital journey and to ultimately either lead sustainable digital transformation initiatives or participate in them.
