Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to revolutionize urban planning, fostering the development of smart cities. AI enhances urban management through predictive analytics, decision-making, and automation, while IoT enables real-time data collection and monitoring of city infrastructure. Together, they optimize transportation, energy consumption, waste management, and public safety, contributing to more sustainable, efficient, and liveable urban environments. However, the implementation of these technologies faces challenges, including data privacy, security concerns, and interoperability issues. Addressing these barriers is crucial for unlocking the full potential of smart cities. This chapter explores the applications, challenges, and future directions of AI and IoT in urban planning, offering insights into the transformative role of these technologies in shaping the cities of tomorrow.
