Abstract

In this quantitative correlational study, an investigation of factors contributing to high online student attrition rates was conducted. Online interaction between students and instructors was studied by examining response times (RTs), student satisfaction, and final course grades. A sample of 54 online students in Spanish language courses participated in the study by responding to 14 online questionnaires. The findings from the study revealed no statistical significance between the RT and student final course grades. However, a linear regression test showed a statistically significant correlation between RT and student satisfaction. Research implications and recommendations may help higher education institution administrators reduce high online attrition rates.
