5G Technology: Critical Research for Applications and Product Development
Abstract
The rapid evolution of 5G technology has led to a surge in innovative applications, underscoring the need for targeted research to address critical challenges and unlock its full potential. This chapter provides a comprehensive framework for identifying technological areas that can drive innovation in 5G applications and product development. It aims to guide nations, organizations, academic institutions, and research entities in contributing to developing a robust and standardized 5G ecosystem. The chapter begins by examining key foundational technologies of 5G, including system ubiquity, interoperability, and IP-based network architectures. It highlights cognitive radio technology, integrated with artificial intelligence, as a pivotal component for enhancing terminal performance and optimizing system efficiency across diverse access systems. The discussion also addresses technological challenges, such as limited frequency spectrum resources and security vulnerabilities requiring focused research to ensure seamless implementation.
