With this book,we highlight the relationships between contemporary high technology and social development, the development and application of high technology, the competition of high technology and coping strategies, the economic development relying on high technology industrial growth.

The intention of the editors of this book is to provide an international platform that brings together academics, researchers, lecturers, and persons in decision making positions, policy makers and practitioners from different backgrounds to share new theories, research findings and
case studies,  by enhancing understanding and collaboration in issues of social development and information technologies in recent developments in theory and practice.

The high technology refers to current rapidly developing technologies, including electronic technology, new material technology, new energy technology, bioengineering technology and communication technology. With the development and needs of scientific technologies and production practices, the emerging industries have achieved spectacular results in various fields, forming the features of high technology, in general terms, the prominent characteristics of high technology industries are high density on knowledge, information, technology and funds; special emphasis on knowledge, talent, and R&D foundation; breakthrough and creativity; and (?)  important impacts on the economy and society.

This book serves to address the growing need of our society to adopt emerging technologies into all aspects of business and economic activity, moving towards innovative solutions to research problems, and thus resulting in high performance systems. Author's/Editor's Biography

Ahmet Cakir (Ed.)
Ahmet Çakir is Director of the ERGONOMIC Institute for Occupational and Social Sciences Research Co., Ltd., Berlin, and the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Behaviour and Information Technology. He is the Convenor of the ISO-Standardization Committee dealing with computer input devices and workplace organisation. Ahmet Çakir is also the chairman of the German Standardisation Committee on ergonomics in informatics. His research interests focus on computer ergonomics, human reliability and health and safety. He has served as an expert member to the German Nuclear Safety Commission, health and safety authorities, commissions of the German Parliament, and Federal Ministries. Dr. Çakir has published numerous books, research reports, academic papers in refereed journals, and conference proceedings. He has organised and chaired more than 20 national congresses, and two international congresses of the series Working With Visual Displays. Together with Tom Stewart and David Hart, he has written the text book. The VDT Manual“ that has been published in five languages.

Patricia Ordóñez de Pablos (Ed.)
Patricia Ordóñez de Pablos is a professor in the Department of Business Administration and Accountability in the Faculty of Economics at The University of Oviedo (Spain). Her teaching and research interests focus on the areas of strategic management, knowledge management, intellectual capital, and China. She serves as an Associate Editor for the Behaviour and Information Technology journal. Additionally, she is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Learning and Intellectual Capital (IJLIC) and the International Journal of Strategic Change Management (IJSCM). She is also Editor-in-Chief of IGI Global’s International Journal of Asian Business and Information Management (IJABIM), as well as editor for a number of IGI Global book publications and full book series.
