The Perception of Urology as a Specialty Among Medical Students at Jordan University
Abstract
Urology is a medico-surgical specialty that deals with the treatment of disorders related to the urinary tract. Although urology is a specialty that treats patients of both sexes, many people still have the misconception about it. Because of this, many students and doctors may be dissuaded from pursuing a career in urology as a result of these stereotypes. The aim of this study is to investigate whether or not medical students face societal or sexual biases when making a decision to pursue a career in urology. In addition, this study will help uncover whether the allocated time for this specialization at Jordan's medical school is sufficient or not. This study highlights the necessity for enhancements to be made in the basic urological training and correcting the miss-understood concepts. As a suggestion we believe that modifying the rounds by adding more clinical time and regular exposure to patients with urological issues could enhance the urological education.
