Reyed M. Reyed

Dr. Reyed M Reyed, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Institute, City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications (SRTA-City) (egyhumanmicrobiome@inbox.ru &r.mohamed@srtacity.sci.eg). Dr. Reyed M. Reyed is an Associate Professor of Microbial Biotechnology with extensive expertise in microbial genomics, computational enzymes, and environmental sustainability. He holds multiple academic credentials, including Dia.M.C, RN, PAND, PhD, MSc, and BSc in Microbial Biotechnology. His research spans a wide range of fields, from the nutritional human gut microbiome and food microbiology to water treatment and food safety. From 2008 to 2019, Dr. Reyed served as an expert in water treatment technology, applying his knowledge to critical challenges such as biofilm formation and marine biofouling in reverse osmosis systems. From 2020 to 2023, he led the Egyptian-Indian joint project on water treatment in collaboration with Indian leader Asifa Qureshi at the Environmental Biotechnology and Genomics Division (EBGD), CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) in Nagpur, India, contributing to practical environmental solutions. In the field of food microbiology, Dr. Reyed has made notable contributions to food safety and has founded a winter school on the subject. He is currently the program coordinator at SRTA-CITY SCI EG. His interdisciplinary research includes advances in computational enzymes and bioinformatics, which complement his expertise in microbial biotechnology, as well as the integration of synthetic biology and systems biology in exploring gut health and environmental sustainability. Dr. Reyed has participated in the Diabetes Master Class (Dia.M.C) organized by Novartis Egypt and the Arabic Society for Diabetes and Metabolism in 2022, under the supervision of the Egyptian Medical Syndicates in Cairo, Egypt. His leadership extends beyond research; he serves as the Academic Editor of the International Journal of Environment and Climate Change and as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Climate Change and Renewable Energy. Dr. Reyed has participated in major international conferences, including events in the UAE, such as the International Conference on Bacteria, Viruses, and Infectious Diseases (Dubai, 2018), and the Food Safety Exhibition in collaboration with Emirates Universities and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi, 2023). He will also serve on the Research Evaluation Committee at the 8th International Conference on Genetic Disorders in Dubai in May 2024. Dr. Reyed holds several certifications in Clinical Nutrition, including Code B N 0458 from Baheya Hospital for Breast Cancer Treatment in Giza, Egypt, in collaboration with Medix Foundation for Training and Medical Education. He is a Registered Clinical Nutritionist (Registration No. 44320/6068) in the Egyptian Syndicate of Scientific Professions and a Registered Physical and Health Nutritionist with the Egyptian Professional Syndicate Committee for Specialists in Cosmetic Professions and Health Services (900444). Additionally, he is a member of the General Syndicate of Egyptian Ambulance Workers (No. 2283) and the Egyptian Red Crescent (No. 1352). His commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and microbial biotechnology is further reflected through his volunteer work in the UAE, where he holds multiple licenses, including General Volunteer No. 523273 (Abu Dhabi) and Sharjah Volunteer Center No. 61318.

Reyed M. Reyed has participated in several workshops related to drug design. These include the 4th Computer-Assisted Drug Design Workshop (CADD-W) held at Kafr El-Sheikh University on November 6-7, 2021, and the InSilico Drug Design Course at Ain Shams Center of Genetic Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, from September 28-30, 2021. Furthermore, he is scheduled to participate in the Drug Discovery, Delivery, and Therapeutics Workshop at New York University Abu Dhabi campus from May 6-8, 2024, in collaboration with the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Italy.

Reyed M. Reyed participated in several funded training programs and courses, notably in 2007 at Sandia National Laboratories, USA, focusing on biosafety, and at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Italy. He also contributed to a workshop on CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing.

He is an active member of several professional societies, including the Arab Society for Diabetes and Metabolism, the Egyptian Society of Functional Medicine, and ESPGHAN (European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition).

Reyed holds several certificates and has completed numerous courses. He earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurship through the Knowledge Project in cooperation with the Regional Office for Arab States of the United Nations Development Corporation and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Knowledge, from Copenhagen Business School in March 2024. He completed a course on Understanding Obesity at the University of Edinburgh in May 2023, and a course on Nutrition and Lifestyle in Pregnancy at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) in August 2022. Additionally, he completed two bioinformatics-related courses: Bacterial Genomes: From DNA to Protein Function Using Bioinformatics (Wellcome Connecting Science, January 2021) and Train the Trainer: Design Genomics and Bioinformatics Training (Wellcome Connecting Science, October 2021). Most recently, he took a course on Nutrition for Health and Sustainability with EIT Food in September 2023.

Reyed also holds SCOPE Certification (the international standard of obesity management expertise) with 16 SCOPE points, having passed 20 modules. He was awarded the SCOPE Core Learning Path Scholarship for Healthcare Professionals in 2021.

As an international arbitrator and reviewer, Reyed contributes his expertise to several prominent scientific journals, including the European Journal of Nutrition, B. SNF (Swedish Nutrition Foundation), Cureus Journal of Medical Science, Microbiology Research Journal International, Journal of Advances in Microbiology, Plant Cell Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, and Food and Health.

Reyed has also been involved in various bioinformatics courses and workshops. These include the NCBI Virtual Workshop: An Introduction to NCBI Cloud Computing for Biologists in November 2021, and the Data Science Summer School of 2022 held at Hertie School Data Science Lab in Berlin, Germany. He attended the Virtual VeuPathDB Bioinformatics Workshop in December 2021, and the Ensembl Workshop organized by Erasmus Postgraduate School of Molecular Medicine, Rotterdam, in April 2021. He further participated in the 2nd Ensembl Workshop (Virtual Ensembl REST API Course) from June 15-17, 2021, held by the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) in the UK. In December 2020, Reyed contributed to the 3rd GED-PerMed Project: Big Data Meets Precision Medicine virtual workshop, organized by the DAAD German Egyptian Progress Partnership Program and Nile University, Egypt.
