Zuhal Akmeşe

Zuhal Akmeşe
completed her first undergraduate studies in Social Studies Teaching at Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Education (2005). She then completed her second undergraduate degree with honors in the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Ege University Faculty of Communication (2010). She completed her Master's degree in Radio, Television, and Cinema at the Institute of Social Sciences at Ege University with a thesis titled "Representation of Youth in Post-2000 Turkish Cinema" (2013), and her PhD at Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences in the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema with a thesis titled "Framing in Television and the Construction of Societal Perspective" (2017). In 2020, she earned the title of Associate Professor in the field of Communication Studies. Dr. Akmeşe’s research interests include documentary cinema, new communication technologies, communication theories, social media, media literacy, visual communication design, production and direction in television and cinema, and the sociology of communication. She has authored several co-written studies in the field of communication and presented papers at international conferences and symposiums. She has also been involved as a consultant in film projects and has participated in numerous film and documentary film works as a director. Her documentary works have been shown at various national and international festivals, and her photographs have been exhibited in art galleries. Since 2013, Dr. Akmeşe has been conducting academic work at the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Dicle University Faculty of Communication. In addition to her academic work, she has served as a member of the main jury at numerous national and international film festivals, as well as being part of the selection committees for many other events. She is a member of the editorial board of TRT Academy Journal, a board member of the Dicle University Cultural and Art Practice and Research Center, a member of the Dicle University Quality Board, and has held the position of Chair of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Dicle University Faculty of Communication. Dr. Akmeşe has authored several books in the fields of cinema and communication. She is also the founding president and current board chair of the Cinema Researchers' Culture and Arts Association, where she continues her work in cinema, arts, and communication. Within the association, she holds the roles of Festival President and Festival Director of the International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival. Additionally, she is the head editor of the SineAkademi cinema studies journal, which was initiated within the association.
