Yabit Alas
Dr.
Yabit Alas
serves as the Director of the Continuing Education Centre. He held the position of Head of Malay Language and Linguistics from 2006 to 2008 and was subsequently appointed as the Director of the Language Centre from 2009 to 2010. In 2011, he spearheaded the establishment of the newly formed Continuing Education Centre before being entrusted with the leadership of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from January 2012 until June 2013, after which he resumed his role at the Continuing Education Centre in July 2013. His area of expertise is Comparative Linguistics, particularly Austronesian Languages. However, his research predominantly focuses on the Dusunic Languages spoken in northern Borneo, with particular emphasis on their origin, dispersal, and classification. He is also actively engaged in research on Malay languages, mainly Standard Malay, and its relevance to globalisation.
