Y. I. Nilmini Silva Gunawardene
is a Senior Professor and Head of the Molecular Medicine Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Her expertise spans molecular biology, recombinant gene technology, medical entomology, and molecular medicine, with a strong focus on understanding disease mechanisms at a molecular level. Prof. Gunawardene has made significant contributions in medical entomology and mosquito control through genetic studies and mentoring numerous students. Her work has been recognised internationally, including receiving the SOMA Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to medical arthropodology. She maintains an active research programme and has published extensively on parasitic infection, vector biology, and molecular diagnostics, advancing both scientific knowledge and public health in Sri Lanka and beyond.
