Vasco Ariston de Carvalho Azevedo
is visiting full professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at UFBA, retired full professor and volunteer at UFMG, CNPq 1A researcher, full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and corresponding member of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences class of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He is a Commander of the Order of Scientific Merit of the MCTI, a member of the Genetics Advisory Committee and the COBRG/CNPq Working Group on Public Policies in Biotechnology and Genetic Resources, coordinator of the Bact-infl Associated International Laboratory of INRA and UFMG and was vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (AB3C) until December 2023. He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Federal University of Bahia (1986), a master's degree (1989) and a doctorate (1993) in Microorganism Genetics from the Institut National Agronomique Paris Grignon. Post-doctorate from the Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania (USA, 1994). Full Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (2004) and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from UFMG (2017). He has experience in Genetics and Bioinformatics, with an emphasis on Molecular Genetics and Microorganisms, working mainly on the following topics: Genomics; transcriptomics; proteomics, metabolomics; Functional analysis of genes; Study of virulence and pathogenicity, Molecular Biotechnology and Biosafety. He works on vaccine development, diagnostics and the development of state-of-the-art probiotics.
