Varun Kumar

Varun Kumar is a seasoned public health professional and Erasmus Mundus scholar (2024-26) with diverse experience in the global health space, including health technology design, evaluations, reviews, strategy/policy development, technical advisory, and implementation research. He has worked extensively with the ministries of health and various international development partners in 20+ countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa, obtaining a strong knowledge of Global Health Policy, Information Systems, and Governance. He is an expert in the review and design of health management information systems (particularly, DHIS2) and as a specialist, he has led health technology assessments and implementations in multiple Asian and African countries. He was tasked as a core team member for the assessment of TB surveillance systems in 19 Global Fund Strategic Initiative countries and has also led country-level HIS enterprise architecture assessments in Bangladesh and Afghanistan. He is also the author of a Chapter “Lessons from India’s Digital Public Infrastructure Transformation” in the book “Accelerating Global Health: Pathways to Health Equity for the G20” and as the founding member of YO.DH (Youth Ownership of Digital Health) - a youth-focused community for Digital Health professionals, he has been a lead author for a publication with Digital Square. In his education, he is trained in Biomedical Science from the University of Delhi and has also pursued an MBA in Health and Hospital Management from IIHMR Delhi. He has been a passionate researcher and through his academic & professional engagements, he has actively contributed to research work in the domains of Health Information Technology, Microbiology, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Disease Surveillance. Varun is currently associated with Dure Technologies as a Manager for Strategic Partnerships (part-time) and studying public health as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar with the University of Sheffield (UK).
