Tonya D. Jeffery

Tonya D. Jeffery is an Assistant Professor of Science Education, Social Justice, & Equity in the Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown, where she brings years of experience as a science middle school teacher, department science chair, and other leadership roles. She holds an EdD in curriculum and instruction, with a science education specialization. Tonya's research encompasses STEM teacher preparation, self-efficacy, and professional development with a focus on critical perspectives of social justice and equity, specifically examining the intersectionality of gender, race, and class. She currently serves on the Science SIG and Diversity & Equity committees of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), and holds a position as a Board member in the Southwest Educational Research Association (SERA), Texas regional chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education (TXNAME), and is a committee member in the School Science and Mathematics Association (SSMA).
