Shawn McIntosh
Shawn McIntosh
is assistant professor and inaugural chair of the master's of arts in multiplatform journalism at the American University of Armenia. He taught digital media and journalism courses and was student media advisor for the student-run newspapers and television studios at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in North Adams, Massachusetts. Before that he taught strategic communications, media ethics, and digital media in the master’s program in strategic communications at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies for several years. McIntosh worked as a journalist and editor in London and then Tokyo for nearly a decade, writing for newspapers and magazines in the UK, Japan, and the US, and created and published a travel and general interest magazine in Tokyo. McIntosh is the co-author with John Pavlik of the mass communication textbook Converging Media: An Introduction to Mass Communication and Digital Innovation, 7th ed. (2023) and co-editor with Marc Leverette of Zombie Culture: Autopsies of the Living Dead (2008). His research interests include using new technologies for journalistic storytelling, journalism’s role in democracy, media ethics, and the political economy of media.
