Shannon M. Solis
Shannon Solis
is recognized as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Prairie View A&M University. She was a former Distinguished Mathematics Professor at San Jacinto College-Generation Park. She has an earned a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas Southern University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M- Commerce and a Bachelors in Mathematics from TAMU-Commerce. Dr. Solis has attended University of Nationalities in Beijing along with Harvard University and Texas Tech University to obtained additional post-graduate coursework in math and education. She is a cofounder of Prime Squared Consultants, LLC. A minority owned business to prepare math teachers to teach math and promote students in the STEM fields and prepare undergraduate students take the math certification exam EC-6 and Math 4-8. Her business is able to foster workshops in motivation, team building and math preparation for P-16 curriculums. Dr. Solis also holds the Vice President of Public Relations State Board position for TABPHE, Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education, secretary of the Board Life Management Centers of Texas (involves mental health of children and adults) and former Vice-President of the Phenomenal Pearls Education & Charities Foundation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Katy, Texas. Dr. Solis also serves on the Board for her alumni at Texas A&M University – Commerce and the Houston local alum Board representative. Dr. Solis has many professional memberships in minority organizations such as Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education and lifetime memberships in TABPHE, AKA, and TAMU-C. She was recently voted in as a new Board member of the Alumni board at her alma mater Texas A&M University-Commerce. Shannon is the middle child of three children, with an older sister who is also an alum of TAMU-Commerce and a 8th grade English Teacher in the Catholic Diocese in Garland, Texas and a younger brother who is a Lieutenant and Commander of the bomb squad for the State of Tennessee. Shannon is the daughter of a steel worker (father) and retired diplomat for the State Department/American Embassies (mother). Shannon enjoys staying abreast of the educational changing environments and is excited to be able to help students learn math in different modalities as well as share information to educators to prepare our next generation of STEM leaders. An area that many of her college students are experiencing today are mental health challenges along with obtaining college degrees. In addition to teaching at the college level full-time, Shannon has also taught high school mathematics in public schools. Dr. Solis latest achievement has been the acceptance at Texas A&M University – College Station PHD of Philosophy program and started Summer of 2024.
