Samina Subzali Vertejee

Samina Vertejee is a Public Health Practitioner serving the communities since 1987. She holds a Master in Health Management degree from the University of Wollongong, Australia and is also currently enrolled in PhD (Education) at AeU Malaysia. Over the past three decades, she worked as an educator, and service provider, especially at the grassroots level and a researcher. Hence, her long service is self-explanatory of her commitment to the broader umbrella of public health nursing practice. Under these three pillars, her areas of interest in public health practice include ageing and health and addiction rehabilitation/substance use disorders. For her work in community, she was also an award recipient and was recognized as one of WHO's Global 100 Nurse and Midwife Leaders in 2020 under the category of “Community Heroes”. Ms Vertejee also holds voluntary positions in various NGOs related to ageing and health. She was greatly involved in the passing of the “Sind Senior Citizen Welfare Act 2014”. The Provincial Council was formulated under this Act and because of her work in ageing, she has also been a member of the Sind Senior Citizen Welfare Council since June 2017-2024.
