Rozina Karmaliani
is an Associate Director for the Brain & Mind Institute, overseeing the South and Central Asia region and also Professor at School of Nursing and Midwifery and Community Health Sciences Department at AKU She is the first Pakistani to obtain a Ph.D. in Nursing in 200 from the University of Minnesota. Alongside, she received various national and international research grants and published over 80 peer reviewed articles. Dr Karmaliani's areas of research include women, child and adolescent health, with a special focus on the prevention of gender-based violence, promoting mental health and preventing suicides from a health systems perspective. Currently, she is also developing a community care model for ageing gracefully. She was recognized as one of WHO's Global 100 Nurse and Midwife Leaders in 2020 and received the Women Leaders Award from the Hum Television Network in 2022. Most recently, she became the first nurse from Pakistan and the region to be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing, a prestigious honour as a Fellow of the Academy.
