Marie Grace Avelino Gomez
Marie Grace A. Gomez
is Professor 4 at the Counselor Education Area, College of Education, University of the Philippines-Diliman. She teaches counseling and research courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has a bachelor's degree in Political Science, a Master of Arts in Education (Guidance) degree, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Guidance, and another doctorate in Special Education. She has served as a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator in the basic and tertiary education settings. Her community extension projects involve counseling and assessment of children, persons with disabilities, children in conflict with the law, drug surrenderees, development of sexual health literacy programs for teens with disabilities, sexually abused children, medical personnel, women with mental health issues in institutional settings, and persons affected by COVID-19. She has led test development endeavors on various DepEd projects in coordination with the National Council on Disability Affairs and Leonard Cheshire Philippines. She has been the lead researcher for the Philippines in a UNESCO research led by Leonard Cheshire UK on Comprehensive Sexuality Education for persons with disabilities. She has received the 2022 Most Outstanding Professional Teacher Award in the field of Academe and Research from the Philippine Federation for Professional Associations. Recently, she won the UP Centennial Professorial Chair for publication and mentoring students to publish in refereed journals.
