Leslie Reyes
Leslie Reyes
is a student in the Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She has a strong interest in social justice, mental health accessibility, and supporting individuals with disabilities. Her desire is to understand the systemic inequities that impact marginalized communities. She is particularly passionate about advocating for minority groups, including individuals with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, to ensure they receive impartial support and services. Currently, Leslie is involved in research under the mentorship of Dr. Ortega, contributing to projects that examine substance use and the barriers to mental health care for underserved populations. She is also active in community service, leadership roles, and volunteer initiatives, including her previous work at hospitals, schools, and university organizations. Leslie aims to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a focus on rehabilitation counseling. She hopes to work in settings that address the mental health needs of diverse and underserved populations, advocating for systemic change and promoting inclusive, evidence-based interventions.
