Karl Vonzell Mitchell

Karl Vonzell Mitchell , as a native of San Antonio, Texas, began his academic journey studying criminal justice as an undergraduate at The University of Texas San Antonio. After graduation, he transitioned to Norwich University, where he gained an interest in national and international issues, subsequently earning a master’s degree in diplomacy and international conflict management. He also sought to become a licensed professional counselor, attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio to earn a second master’s degree in counseling and guidance before achieving a Doctorate in Counselor Education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Dr. Mitchell wields over 20 years of experience working within the mental health field, serving clients and communities from various populations. As a clinician he aims to establish interventions for quality care of clients, communities and treatments to help eliminate misdiagnosis. As an assistant professor, he seeks to synthesize teaching, counseling and service with qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research design, and contribute to advancements in service-learning in counselor education, and wellness counseling. He currently serves students, clients, and the profession as an Assistant Professor and Faculty Chapter Advisor for the Epsilon Tau Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International at East Texas A&M University, COUNSGRADS listserv owner (national listserv for graduate students in Counselor Education), Executive Director of the International Association for Wellness Counseling, the KVMitchell Institute for Global Service-Learning, and Towards a Just and Peaceful World Counseling and Consulting.
