Jo Anne Durovich

Jo Anne Durovich , Ph.D., LMSW, is a social work educator, program developer, and licensed clinician with 25 years of experience in higher education, non-profit administration and behavioral health. She currently serves as the founding Director of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at St. Joseph’s University of New York, where she led the initiative from concept through accreditation, shaping a curriculum grounded in equity, access, and professional relevance. Dr. Durovich holds an MSW an a PhD in Social Welfare and brings a unique perspective to academic leadership, drawing from her direct practice in the non-profit sector and in behavioral health, as well as her longstanding commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy. Her work focuses on the intersections of social work education, public policy, and institutional change, with a particular emphasis on how systems of higher education respond to social and political disruptions and how these systems meet the needs of nontraditional, first generation and underrepresented students. Dr. Durovich has presented regionally and nationally on topics related to accreditation, curriculum innovation, the nontraditional student experience and the role of social work in confronting systemic inequities. As both an administrator and classroom educator, she is passionate about building programs that reflect the lived realities of diverse students and the evolving needs of the profession. Her contribution to this volume draws on her experiences navigating and leading change during a period of profound transformation in the higher education landscape.
