Janet B. Roman

Janet Roman 's life’s work involves improving outcomes for heart failure patients and promoting the use of palliative care and hospice. Dr. Roman is currently serving as the Special Advisor to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of South Florida and the Director of Cardiac Services at Empath Health and has dedicated a large portion of her nursing practice to those suffering with heart failure. As a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Certified Heart Failure Nurse, and Advanced Certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse, she has been the Principal Investigator in a plethora of studies to advance the use of palliative care in the heart failure population. Other research interests include heart failure across the continuum, the reduction of symptom burden through comprehensive heart failure care, improving self-care through remote patient monitoring and simulation education. Dr. Roman’s clinical experience expands across many concentrations including cardio-thoracic surgery, mechanical circulatory support, cardiac transplant, cardiac, medical, and surgical intensive care, emergency medicine, homecare and hospice.
