Deanna Grant-Smith

Deanna Grant-Smith is a leading business educator who is passionate about promoting sustainability and social responsibility in the professional practice of tomorrow’s business leaders. She designs learning opportunities that support students to develop the critical thinking skills, disposition, and ethical awareness necessary for sustainable futures which are developed through authentic assessment and engagement with case studies and problem-based scenarios that require students to reflect on their values and biases, embrace multi-stakeholder perspectives, and question the status quo in contemporary business thought and practices. This is critical in developing awareness of global challenges so they can become responsible corporate and global citizens and enter the workplace equipped to advance and implement practices that contribute to sustainable and responsible business. Consistent with her commitment to social justice, as Deputy Director of QUT’s Centre for Decent Work and Industry, she has made a significant contribution to understanding the impacts of work-integrated learning (WIL) on student wellbeing through her pioneering funded projects and significant body of scholarship (spanning 2013-2021) influencing WIL practices globally. Deanna is a Senior Fellow and Associate Fellow (Indigenous) of the Higher Education Academy and was awarded an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
