Colby Cavanaugh

Colby Cavanaugh is a public sector Emergency Manager for a city of 50,000 in the United States. He holds a Master of Professional Studies in Emergency and Disaster Management from Georgetown University, where his research focused on enhancing community resilience and deepening the understanding of the wildland-urban interface. Colby also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Washington State University, with a concentration in Public Relations and Comparative Ethnic Studies. An active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers, he maintains the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation. With a strong background in planning and operations, Colby has successfully addressed challenges at both the local and state levels in the U.S., as well as within higher education. His work and research are shaped by personal experiences responding to large-scale disasters, including the Oso Landslide (2014), the 2015 Wildfire Season in Washington State, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Colby is passionate about advancing the field of emergency management, exploring innovative ideas, and harnessing the power of community to build resilience in both professional and personal settings.
