Bartel Van de Walle

Bartel Van de Walle is an associate professor at Tilburg University (The Netherlands) and a visiting professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (USA) and Harbin Engineering University (China). He received his PhD in applied mathematics and computer science from Ghent University (Belgium). His research focuses on decision support systems, high reliability organizations, and humanitarian information systems. Dr. Van de Walle has founded the international ISCRAM Community (http://www.iscram.org) and has organized sessions, tracks, international workshops, conferences, and a PhD Summer School in this area in Europe, US, and China. He was a recipient of a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship. Van de Walle is a senior editor for the Journal of Information Technology Theory and Applications (JITTA) and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He has published more than eighty papers in proceedings of international conferences and journals (among which DSS, EJOR, JMIS, and Communications of the ACM). Van de Walle has served as an expert reviewer and consultant for the American, Belgian and Dutch National Science Foundations, the European Commission, and the UN (International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs).
