Ashok Dalwai

Ashok Dalwai , as a member of the Indian Administrative Service of the 1984 batch (Odisha Cadre) has served in different capacities at both field and policy formulation stages in the States of Odisha and Karnataka, as also the Government of India (GoI). At the senior level, he has served as Secretary and Principal Secretary in the Departments of Industries, Steel, Mines, and Textiles, besides holding various tenures as Chairman and Managing Director of Public Sector Undertakings, Research, and Academic Institutions. He served Government of India from 2010 to 2023 in different capacities. Since 2015, he was with the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare initially as Addnl. Secretary and subsequently as CEO of National Rainfed Area Authority for seven long years, on elevation as Secretary. He was the Chairman of the Committee on Doubling Farmers Income and submitted fourteen volume reports to the GoI in September 2018. His report recommended secondary agriculture as one of the ways to enhance farm incomes. From 2018, he was tasked to supervise and guide the implementation of DFI strategy as the Chairman of the Empowered Body. He continues to be an active promoter of agriculture and farmers’ welfare across the country in his capacity as the Chairman of Commodities Derivative Advisory Committee (CDAC) by the Securities Exchange Board of India, Co-Chairman, Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture, member of Jammu and Kashmir Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP), amongst others. He holds a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics, and a Ph.D. in Economics. To his credit are several articles, research papers, and book chapters. His passion for academia is no less than administration. He has won several awards including conferment of Honorary Doctorates of Science, Doctorate of Literature and Professorship by several Universities, besides Honorary Fellowship by Agricultural Economics Research Association, India
