Ari Happonen
Ari Happonen
is an Associate Professor, project manager/principal investigator, and university–industry collaborator at LUT School of Engineering Science, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland. Prof. Happonen also holds an Adjunct Professor position at Taylor’s University, where he works closely with Taylor’s Impact Lab and contributes to intensive education, sustainability, and technology development research and educational efforts. His research interests include AI/LLMs, digitalization and digital twins, augmented/virtual reality and metaverses, ICT and digitalization for sustainability, hackathons for digital transformation, and modern circular economy and sustainability-enhancing strategies and methodologies. His research focuses mainly on practical and efficient industry-related, nationally and internationally funded applied research collaboration activities in both B2B and B2C contexts. He contributes to the future of software engineering and digitalization, Createch utilization, ICT and sustainability, AI solutions, and hackathon- and education-related research areas. He actively contributes to education development, with more than 20 years of experience, including experience as the Head of a bachelor’s program. He works as a university–industry intermediary in multiple research projects with innovative front-line companies. He is a well-established IEEE Senior Member and has supervised over 200 theses and published over 200 academic publications in books, journals, conferences, and other outlets.
