Antoinette Hollis
Antoinette C. Hollis
holds an Ed.D., LPC, and NCC. She is an Academic Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor in Counselor Education at South Carolina State University in the Department of Human Services. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor and received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in Sarasota, FL, M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University, and a B.S in Psychology from Florida A & M University. Dr. Hollis has 13 years of experience working in mental health counseling working with at-risk youth who face emotional, social, & cultural barriers that impact psychological change. She integrates her knowledge of mental health issues to help family’s problem solve unmet needs, overcome personal issues, and work towards positive home and school experiences. She has worked as a counselor educator, school-based counselor, and private rehabilitation counselor. Dr. Hollis professional experience in the field working with students with disabilities has provided her an opportunity to conduct research presentations, book reviews, and articles in disability awareness, mental health, and horticultural therapy. Dr. Hollis served as a lead investigator on a three-year 1890 Research grant studying the use of horticultural therapy on at-risk youth. She developed a horticultural therapy program for elementary school students. She has an international publication through the International Society for Horticulture Science on The effects of horticultural therapy on at-risk youth in the peer-reviewed journal Acta Horticulturae. She has presented eight professional conference presentations on the topic of horticultural therapy and conducted workshops with school counselors, school-based counselors, mental health counselors, counselor educators and social work undergraduate students. She has served on the editorial board for the American Psychotherapy Association, a peer-reviewed journal. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, American School Counselor Association, Palmetto State School Counselor Association, Georgia School Counselor Association, Licensed Professional Counselor Association of Georgia, American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, and the Carolinas Horticultural Therapy Network professional organizations that help shape her counseling identity.
