Andrés R. Amado

Andrés R. Amado is an associate professor of musicology and ethnomusicology at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. He researches Latin American and U.S.-Latinx popular, traditional, and art musics, and culturally sustaining pedagogies. He has published articles, book chapters, and dictionary and encyclopedia entries in English and Spanish as author, co-author, and translator, and presented papers, panels, and workshops in conferences of musicology, ethnomusicology, cultural studies, social sciences, and Latin American Studies. As a musician, Dr. Amado has performed in a variety of ensembles in various musical traditions, including chamber and symphonic choirs, Javanese gamelans, marimba ensembles, and currently plays pop and rock covers with the UTRGV faculty band Minör Revisiöns. Dr. Amado holds a Ph.D. in music from The University of Texas at Austin.
