Aleksandr Orel
Aleksandr Orel
, Ph.D. is an expert in MSME development and trade facilitation with over 8 years of experience supporting small and medium enterprises, cross-border trade, and regional economic cooperation. He specializes in conducting feasibility studies, developing strategies and roadmaps, and implementing digital tools for trade. Aleksandr has a proven track record in fostering collaboration between academia, the private sector, and government agencies. He currently serves as an Associate Professor at Gatchina State University (Russia), teaching Regional Economics and Entrepreneurship, while conducting research on socio-economic issues in the CIS region. Concurrently, he works as an Economist at the Competence Center for Trade Facilitation at the M. Ryskulbekov Kyrgyz Economic University, where he leads analytical research and capacity-building activities to support MSMEs in Central Asia. Previously, Aleksandr was Head of the Economic Department at the Entrepreneurship Support Foundation (Russia), overseeing socio-economic policy analysis, business consulting, and the development of support programs for SMEs. He also has extensive experience as a business consultant, providing strategic advice to over 1,500 SMEs and startups. Aleksandr earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in 2023, with a dissertation focused on sustaining regional economic systems through MSME support. He holds a Master’s degree in Regional Economics from St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, and a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management from the Russian Customs Academy, both with honors. He is fluent in Russian and English and holds multiple professional certifications in business planning, international trade, and business analytics. Aleksandr has received several awards for his contributions to sustainable development and education and serves as an expert for UNNExT.
