Ahmet Demirden
Ahmet Demirden
completed his doctoral degree in psychology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University and is a Professor in the Criminal Justice program within the Faculty of Social and Community Services at Humber College. His academic and professional work sits at the intersection of social psychology, policing, and public security. He has designed and delivered numerous in-service training programs in forensic and applied psychology for international law enforcement agencies, including the Turkish National Police, CEPOL, INTERPA, and the United Nations. In addition, he served as an expert in Türkiye–EU Counter-Terrorism Projects for more than six years, contributing to capacity-building initiatives focused on security governance. Drawing on his background as a former police officer, Ahmet advocates for the integration of behavioral science into policing practices, particularly in domains where trust, communication, and perception shape security outcomes. His research focuses on restorative justice, investigative interviewing, and leadership within value-based policing, approached through an operant and social-psychological lens. He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the Luke Lab at Brock University (Canada), where he examines the use of virtual reality to enhance mechanisms underpinning rapport building. Ahmet also served as a Management Committee member of COST Action CA22128, Establishing Networks to Implement the Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations (IMPLEMENDEZ), contributing to international efforts to strengthen ethical, evidence-based interviewing standards. His broader scholarly work aims to advance socially informed, psychologically grounded frameworks for improving public security in increasingly polarized and post-truth contexts.
