Achmad Izzul Waro
Achmad Izzul Waro
is an urban transport expert from Indonesia, with a scientific background in civil engineering from Gadjah Mada University and the University of Indonesia, he developed his abilities through various work experiences at national and international institutions for more than 16 years. Some of these institutions include the Institute for Transportation Studies (Instran), a US-based NGO the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), the German International Cooperation (GIZ), the Jakarta Provincial Government as Indonesian Capital Territory, Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and finally Integrasi Transit Jakarta (ITJ) which is part of the MRT Jakarta urban rail company. In addition, Izzul is involved in several consultancy projects with the Swisscontact, the National University of Singapore, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UN-Habitat, as well as government agencies. Apart from that, he is also active in delivering material as a speaker at seminars and workshops, or as a guest lecturer at several universities and colleges. He is a productive author, of both scientific and popular writings related to sustainable transportation policy. He established 'Tumbuh Foundation' in 2022, a social institution that operates in the field of education for kids in marginal societies and the environment. During his professional career, he also carried out many international collaborations for transportation research, human resource development, and social and environmental activities, including with representatives of Europe, America, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region. After completing his duties as President Commissioner at ITJ and Director at Transjakarta BRT, he continued his improvement in the field of sustainable development at the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Science of Murdoch University, Western Australia, as well as conducting research with various partners from around the globe.
