Abstract

After a discussion on the use of course management systems (CMSs) for teaching purposes in general and the CMS Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) specifically, the author describes the rationale why Moodle has been selected to be integrated into a hybrid research course at an American Pacific island university. This course is a pilot implementation of mixing e-learning with face-to-face classroom learning in the teacher education program. The author also discusses course “design” that is very important to maximize student online learning, and concludes by setting an agenda for future design research in the course based on constructivist perspectives.
