Reviews and Testimonials

Contributors from communication and information sciences, but also from natural, geospatial, and social sciences examine how information and computing resources are being used now in those sciences and how the future might be changed by new requirements or new technology. The overall themes are collaboration, frameworks, and legal aspects; high end computing, storage, and services; communication, computation, and advanced scientific computing; and big data exploration, visualization, education, and social media. Among the topics are software design for passing Sarbanes-Oxley in cloud computing, the high-end monitoring and control of computer systems, password recovery research and its future direction, thermo-chemical convection in planetary mantles advection methods and magma ocean overturn simulations, and integrating a visualization solution with a three-dimensional simulation model for tissue growth.

Claus-Peter Rückemann (Ed.)
Dr. rer. nat. Claus-Peter Rückemann is a lecturer, researcher, and research associate at the Leibniz Universität Hannover and at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU), Germany. He studied geophysics, computer science, geosciences, and archaeology, focussing on scientific computing, geoprocessing, information systems and distributed and High Performance Computing and holds an University-Diplom degree in geophysics and a Doctorate degree for natural sciences in geoinformatics, informatics, and geosciences from the Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, WWU. Dr. Rückemann teaches Information Science, Security, and Computing at the Institute for Legal Informatics, University of Hannover, Faculty of Law, in the European Legal Informatics Study Programme (EULISP), for the postgraduate LL.M. programme in IT-Law and Intellectual Property Law, awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service and the Donors' Association for the Promotion of the Sciences and Humanities. He is leading scientific advisor for national and international projects, head of research of the LX Foundation, the director of the GEXI Consortium, scientific advisor for High Performance Computing (HPC), natural sciences, geosciences, planetology, Information Systems, security, legal informatics, and economy and serves as advisory and general chair in scientific and research grants committees, conferences, boards, and panels. Dr. Rückemann is the general chair and advisory chair for several international conferences as the INFOCOMP, GEOProcessing, and CYBERLAWS and serves as advisory committee, advisory board, and editorial board member for scientific books, journals, and conferences, international research grants reviewer, scientific, program, evaluation, and steering committee member, moderator, and chairman for internationally reviewed conferences, commissions, universities, and expert panels, advisor for scientific reviews, editor, and for international peer reviews and scientific peer review auditor. Dr. Rückemann is a scientific member of the University of Münster and the University of Hannover. Currently he is also on duty for the North-German Supercomputing Alliance (HLRN), managing the largest supercomputer resources in Northern Germany. For the last two decades he worked for university institutes, medical institutions, and scientific computing centres, in research, management, and supervising positions. He participated in many research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Research Association (DFG), European Framework Programmes (FP), and Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP). Dr. Rückemann is the founder and representative of numerous research projects. He was the initial coordinator of the three sections Monitoring, Accounting, and Billing, for establishing the German D-Grid in the German e-Science Initiative. Dr. Rückemann is the author of numerous scientific contributions and peer reviewed publication, awarded with several Best Paper Awards. He has been distinguished with the Grade IARIA Fellow of the International Academy, Research, and Industry Association for his scientific research on the state of the art improvement in HPC, Information Systems, Distributed Computing, and international collaboration.
