Thiago Duarte Pimentel

Thiago Pimentel is an associate professor at Federal University of Juiz de Fora/UFJF. Post doctorate in Sociology (Social Theory & Critical Realism) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2019), with supervision of Frédéric Vandenberghe. PhD in Social Sciences (Sociology) from UFJF (2012). Master in Administration (2008) and Bachelor in Integrated Tourism Planning (2006) both from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Permanent Professor of the Graduate Programs in Social Sciences/PPGCSO (master & doctorate), in Administration/PPGA (academic master's) and in Public Administration (professional master's) at UFJF. Regular collaborator in the Postgraduate Programs in Sustainable Development at the University of Guadalajara/UdG (Mexico) and in Social Sciences at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa/UAS (Mexico). Regular Member of International Scientific Associations (ISA - International Sociological Association, and member of the Board of Directors of the International Sociological Association, in its Research Committee 17 (Sociology of Organizations); AIEST - International Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism, IPPA - International Public Policy Association, CLACSO, COMECSO, AMECIP) and national (ANPAD, SBEO, ANPTUR, COODTUR). Visiting scholar at Université du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM / Canada), Arizona State University (USA), Universidad de Guadalajara (México), Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (Mexico), Universidad de la Habana (Cuba), UTE and UNEMI (Ecuador), UNED (Costa Rica) among others. Professor at the Interdisciplinary Bachelor in Humanities/BACH and Bachelor in Tourism, both at UFJF. Former coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Degree in Humanities/BACH, president of its academic council, and of its structuring teaching nucleus. Editor in chief of the journal Anais Brasileiros de Estudos Turísticos/ABET and of the journal Revista Latinoamericana de Turismologia/RELAT. Leader of the research groups Critical Realism, Collective Action and Work (sociology area CNPq/UFJF). Founder and director of the Latin American Center of Tourism - CELAT; and director of the Social and Economic Observatory of Tourism/OEST (tourism area CNPq/UFJF) and the Laboratory of Tourism Planning/LAPLANTUR. Former Counselor of the State Council of Tourism from the Minas Gerais-CET/SETUR/MG. Former vice-president of the Municipal Council of Tourism/COMTUR of the city of Juiz de Fora/MG and leader of its committee on Research, Information and Culture. Consultant for international (CONACYT), national (CNPq, Fapemig) and local (Research Advisory Committee - UFJF) funding agencies. Member of editorial board and also reviewer in international and national scientific journals in the areas of sociology, public and business administration, and tourism.
