Sónia Remondes Costa

Sónia Remondes-Costa has a degree in Clinical and Counselling Psychology (2001) and a PhD in Clinical and Health Psychology (2012). Postgraduate in Advanced Studies in Health Psychology, Psycho-Oncology and Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. Since September 2003, she has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology Education (DEP) at the School of Human and Social Sciences (ECHS) of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). Her professional career has included teaching in higher education, primary health care, private social solidarity institutions (IPSSs), and private practice. She started as a Guest Assistant Professor on the degree programme in Curative Psychopedagogy at the Universidade Moderna do Porto (2001-2003). She worked in Primary Health Care at the Alfândega da Fé Health Centre (Bragança District; 2006-2008). She has worked as a clinical psychologist in different IPSS, namely: Francisco António Meireles Foundation (Torre de Moncorvo - Bragança), in the residential care of children and young people at risk and nursing home (2001-2006); ‘O Leme’ - Association for Psychological Support for Oncological Patients and Families (Torre de Moncorvo - Bragança) (2006-2008); Portuguese League Against Cancer - Northern Regional Centre (Porto) (2009-2011); Laços Prá Vida Association (Vila Real) in collaboration with the Portuguese League Against Cancer - Northern Regional Centre (2010-2012). As well as in different clinics: Psychological and Psychopedagogical Support Centre (2003-2004) - Alfândega da Fé - Bragança; Clínica dos Arcanjos (2004-2008) - Torre de Moncorvo - Bragança). At UTAD, she currently teaches History of Psychology, Group Dynamics, Theoretical Models in Psychology, Therapy Techniques and Behavioural Change, Assessment and Intervention in Health Psychology, Clinical and Health Psychology, Health Psychology, and Oncological Psychology in Psychology (1st and 2nd cycle), Psychomotor Rehabilitation, and Sociocultural Animation degrees. She also supervises internships and theses in the Master's Degree in Psychology, specializing in Clinical and Health Psychology and Educational and Developmental Psychology. She has supervised professional internships for the Portuguese Psychologists' Association since 2012. She is also a guest trainer in the Advanced Specialisation in Psychological Intervention in Bereavement [E-learning], in the Module Bereavement in Childhood and Adolescence: Psychological Intervention and in the Workshop Psychological Intervention in Bereavement: in Childhood and Adolescence [E-learning], at the CRIAP Institute. She is a researcher at CIDESD (Sports, Health and Development Research Centre, UTAD). Her research interests include Health Psychology and Oncological Psychology, specifically Health Promotion (in health and illness); Mind-Body Therapies, such as relaxation, yoga, meditation, and hypnosis, and the development and evaluation of the effectiveness of intervention programs; and Palliative Care, specifically Psycho-Existential Models of Intervention in Palliative Care and Bereavement. She is the author of the book Breast Cancer: pains of Female Suffering from the Experience of the Disease; author and co-author of book chapters in the field of psycho-oncology; author and co-author of national and international scientific articles and present at National and International Congresses in the field of her lines of research.
