Ruthanne Hughes
Ruthanne Hughes
is an emerging scholar in her field, having graduated with her PhD in second language acquisition in May 2023 from the University of South Carolina. Her research interests focus on second language acquisition through a sociolinguistic lens, particularly engaging with raciolinguistic dynamics in the English as a second/foreign language classroom. Her dissertation focused on ideologies of race, gender, and religion in evangelical ESL programs in South Carolina. After graduation, Dr. Hughes moved to Shaanxi Province, China, where she teaches English at Weinan Normal University. Her current and future research plans focus on native-speakerism in the classroom.
