Nükhet Hotar
is a career diplomat and academician for the Turkish Government for more than 20 years who studied on the areas such as women and children’s working conditions, wages rates, minimum wages, trade unionism, higher educative issues with Dokuz Eylül University. She became the Rector of the University on 15th July 2018 and served for almost 6 years. Here, despite the global pandemic she accomplished 3 new faculties; Veterinarians, Dentistry and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. In addition, Türkiye’s biggest technology organization which is Teknofest was dominated by the Dokuz Eylül University every year and won many awards. Prof. Dr. Hotar started her political life on the 3rd of November 2002 with Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (Justice & Development Party), which has been the main governmental party for about 25 years. Another political duty was as the deputy chairman of the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Many developments were made with professor Hotar’s achievements and the aid of the Turkish government such as building autobahns, The Eurasia Tunnel was built, the construction of the Çanakkale Bridge, The Osmangazi Bridge was built and so many more. The studies of her were also very significant in the Silk Road project. In addition, Professor Hotar was one of the initiators of the first law to be legislated in Türkiye for disabled persons in 2004. As of March 2024, Prof. Dr. Hotar has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General for the Union for the Mediterranean in charge of Transport & Urban Development with the title of Ambassador as the Special Representative of the Republic of Türkiye
