Mukul Machhindra Barwant
Mukul Machhindra Barwant
is a dedicated botanist, researcher, and academic leader, currently serving as Dean of Research and Innovation and Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Sanjivani Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Kopargaon. With over seven years of teaching and research experience, and hands-on industry experience, he has made significant contributions in the fields of phycology, nutraceuticals, herbal biotechnology, and the pharmacology of seaweeds. He earned his Ph.D. in Phycology (specializing in nutraceutical and pharmacological studies on seaweeds) from Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara, under Shivaji University, Kolhapur, after qualifying the university’s PET with a top rank (6th position) in 2018. Dr. Barwant has an impressive academic and research portfolio. He has authored over 62 research papers published in reputed national and international journals such as Springer, Elsevier, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis, and UGC-CARE. In addition, he has contributed 47 book chapters and edited 50 academic volumes covering advances in botany, marine biotechnology, herbal formulations, and sustainable agriculture. His innovative spirit is evident from the 34 patents granted to him across India, the UK, and Germany, which focus on plant-based technologies, herbal innovations, and bioproduct development. His academic leadership includes reviewing 50+ research articles, serving on the editorial boards of 26 international journals, and contributing as a speaker, resource person, and guest lecturer across various platforms. He has participated in 44 conferences, 69 workshops, 137 webinars, and 42 Faculty Development Programs (FDPs). Dr. Barwant has presented 25 abstracts, delivered 7 invited talks, and successfully organized 13 webinars and academic events at the national and international levels. He is actively involved in professional organizations, including the National Teacher Organization in Life Science, The Indian Botanical Society, and SOLETE (Society of Learning Technology). His achievements have earned him 26 prestigious awards, including the Young Researcher Award (2021 & 2024), Lifetime Achievement Award (2022 & 2024), Best Teacher Award (2021), Distinguished Researcher Award (2025), and several others recognizing his excellence in research, innovation, and teaching. Dr. Barwant is committed to advancing plant science through interdisciplinary research and the practical application of biotechnological innovations. His vision is to promote sustainable development by integrating traditional botanical knowledge with modern science, while nurturing young researchers and contributing to global scientific progress. With a career that bridges academic excellence, industrial application, and societal impact, Dr. Barwant continues to be a driving force in the field of modern botany and herbal science.
