Melissa Rust
Melissa Rust
is a teacher of Afrikaans First Additional Language at a high school in Pretoria, South Africa. She recently completed her MA Applied Linguistics at the University of Pretoria in 2023, focusing on codeswitching in a multilingual classroom setting as a means of facilitating learning. She has co-published an article with Joanine Hester Nel, in SALALS (South African Linguistics and Applied Language Studies journal) in 2024, on the helpfulness of codeswitching in teaching Afrikaans as a First Additional Language. She is interested in all the varied aspects of language learning, production and development and is soon to start working on her PhD in Linguistics focusing on early child language development.
